An overview of motivators and challenges of passive design strategies

Abstract Growing concerns over high energy consumption and CO2 emissions from residential buildings have boosted the adoption of passive design strategies (PDS) globally, for their promising solution to address these issues, also positively influencing occupant productivity. As such, many governments organizations developed relevant codes procedures encourage enforce PDS. Despite increased focus, PDS is still trailing behind in developing countries, particularly a hot, dry humid climate zone. This paper examines current state such climates, extracts motivators, challenges. The data was gathered through structured review literature. Initial results show extraction thirty-five motivators forty-six challenges adoption. key include reduction bills, while initial investment lack awareness.
